This Sunday September 13 will be Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary. To mark this occasion Nintendo is releasing today Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo Wii U.
In case you’ve been living under a rock since E3 this year Super Mario Maker is Nintendo’s gift to all of us Mario fans, granted a gift we have to pay $59.99 for, but a game that puts us in the shoes of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and allows you to create your very own Mario levels.
Once you create your own level you can upload them onto the internet to challenge other players, but before you get too sadistic with your level design the game challenges you to beat your very own level before it will upload it. So if you’re not good enough to beat it yourself you’ll never get to share it.
For me this is like Minecraft meets Mario, but instead of painstaking hours just creating scenery, your creations come to life for you, your friends & family, and the whole world to enjoy. I can’t wait to get home today and open up my copy and start creating, but more so than that, I can’t wait to turn this over to my son Shawn and see what craziness he comes up with to challenge me.
Some other goodies for this game are that you can use your Amiibos to create costumes for Mario to wear and he’ll look like those characters. So if you’ve ever wanted to see Link, Zelda, or even Mario’s number one rival Sonic the Hedgehog run through a Mario level, you just have to add them in with your Amiibos.
This Monday we hope to have a full review up for you along with some ID codes so you can find the levels we created. If you want an idea though right now of what this game is all about check out the video below from the Super Beard Bros. from That One Videogamer.
