In 2015 Square Enix made every fanboys’ wet dream come true by showing a trailer for Final Fantasy VII HD remake (this isn’t my wet dream though because Final Fantasy IX is better), however there were caveats, one of the biggest being that it wouldn’t be one whole game but it would episodic.
Square said they were doing this so that they could get the game out faster to the fans. Well that’s not really going the way the wanted, game director Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu (via GamingBolt) that the game may not launch in 2017 (I guarantee it won’t).
Also the game’s producer Yoshinori Kitase had things to say like, “…there’s still a ways to go…” as well as “FFVII will be episodic , and if we want to have it go all the way to the end of the original version, then I believe we’ll have to devote everything we have for it, so I have no idea what will happen for things such as filler development (between episodes) and other works.”
That is basically saying that the game’s producer has no idea how long it will take, how far it will go, how many episodes, and if they’ll ever finish it.
I don’t know what Square is doing here, all the fans wanted was an HD remake. All they wanted was for Square to pretty up the graphics, but Square seems to be tearing the game down and starting from scratch since they haven’t even mastered the battle system yet. So, just like Kingdom Hearts III this game feels like a game is never going to come out. I’m sure people will be excited for the first episode whenever it comes out, but unless it blows people away it might not make that big of a dent in the gaming atmosphere.
What do you think about all of this? When will we ever get to play Final Fantasy VII remake, will they ever finish is? Let us know in the comments below.
