First and foremost I’d like to take a moment to wish everything single one of you a very Merry Christmas from myself and the rest of us here at the Clash, secondly as I write this while watching It’s A Wonderful Life I remember the reason for the season.
If you ask me what my favorite movie is I’ll tell you the original Star Wars trilogy (because I consider them a long 6 hour movie), but if you asked me what movie had the largest affect on my life I’d tell you “It’s a Wonderful Life” and the ironic thing about that is that this isn’t even my favorite Christmas movie, but this movie has taught me maybe the most wonderful lesson anyone can learn, and that is that you don’t do the right thing for any personal or financial gain, you do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.
Our hero George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) is a young man with more ambition than anyone I’ve ever seen on film, but when his father dies he’s forced to abandon his plans to travel the world as an explorer and run his dad’s Building and Loan to save the town from the slum lord Potter. Through out the film George has a chance to take the easy way or the right way and never falters and does the right thing.
George Bailey is what we as decent human beings should strive to be, especially today on Christmas. Because of this movie I always try to do my best and do what’s right and I have past those teachers down to my son.
So to my fellow geeks and nerds, have a very Merry Christmas, and enjoy some of my favorite Christmas movies, like It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Charlie Brown’s Christmas, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, and Gremlins.
