On this day 30 years ago Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo unleashed on the world Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the West and the Famicom (Nintendo Family Computer) in Japan.
The game was an instant success and single handidly saved the home console market in the United States which had crashed in 1983 and was considered all but dead. Nintendo packaged Super Mario Bros. in with the Nintendo which was a gamble that payed off as it gave families the chance to play Nintendo’s mos fun game to date right out of the box. Word of mouth and critical acclaim helped move systems and brought back the home console market to the States.
To commemorate this Anniversary we here at Clash of the Nerds are dedicating this entire week to Mario. With classic reviews, Battle Grounds, and a review of the new Mario Maker.
So enjoy as we celebrate this little plucky plumber that built an empire.
