They say hindsight is 20/20 and it would appear that David Ayer has seen the light in terrible adaption of Suicide Squad. When asked on Twitter about the film this is what Ayer had to say:
“I took inspiration from the insanity of the original comics, ff you set out to make a mass appeal movie, it’s easy to end up with vanilla. But I went for it. And I know Squad has its flaws. Hell, the world knows it … Wish I had a time machine. I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it.”
It’s interesting the way Ayer worded this, mentioning “mass appeal” which, in spite of him saying he went for it, this movie indeed tried to go for mass appeal, hence the design of the Joker and all the Hot Topic merch we saw from this movie. Also it seems he’s falling on the sword for Warners and DC with this because if you watch any of Ayer’s other films they are smaller scale and more focused. I have no doubt that Ayer wanted the Joker to be the main villain but Waner Bros. wanted to go bigger and have this film be more like Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
So what do you think about this, do you think the movie would have been better had the Joker been the main villain? Let us know in the comments below.
