Ben Affleck Leaves The Director’s Chain On The Batman

If there is one thing the DCEU seems to be better at than the MCU it is losing directors and this one is a doozy.  Ben Affleck, who is still set to continue staring as Batman has decided to step down from directing The Batman.

This is not a good sign for that movie or the DCEU in general.  When asked earlier last year on when we would see a stand alone Batman movie, Affleck had said that we wouldn’t see it until he had a script that he liked.  To me that was the director not actor talking.  As an actor he’s contracted for so many films and if WB and DCEU say “hey, we’ve got this Batman movie we’re making, suit up!” he is contractually obligated to appear.  Ben Affleck the director does not have that obligation.

So if Ben Affleck has decided to step down from directing this movie does that mean he doesn’t like the direction or story of the film?  It might.  It’s one thing to star in a bad movie, it’s a whole other thing to direct one.  Directing a stinker can sing your career for a long time or permanently.

Here is what Ben had to say:

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

So what do you think of this?  Does this spell doom for The Batman?  Let us know in the comments below.
