The End is Nigh for Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones Show Runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff have confirmed what many of us had been thinking for some time now, that at best we have 15 episodes left of the show, i.e., a season and a half.

This is what Benioff had said to Deadline:

It’s two more seasons we’re talking about. From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with. Call it 73 for now.

He later goes on to say that they had always intended to tell one long story with a beginning, middle, and end, unlike some other shows (cough The Walking Dead cough) that have no idea where they’re going.

Personally, as much as I love GoT I’d love for just one more season, an extra long season, one that has 13-15 episodes instead of 10 and then an eighth with only 3 or 5.

I’m sure HBO has backed up the money trucks to Weiss’s and Benioff’s homes in hopes of extending the show, but honestly that would hurt the show.  There would be too much filler and episodes that don’t progress the plot.

I know what you’re thinking “but there are sub plots of the books that we haven’t seen and still could be put into the show.”  This is true, but sometimes sub plots of books do not translate well to the big or small screen.  Shows and movies need to be streamlined, where as books can go off on tangents and it still works.

If HBO wants more Game of Thrones then why not film Robert’s Rebellion, that’s a great tale we’ve only seen a taste of with Bran’s visions, I for one would love to see more of that.

What do you think dear reader?  One super sized season or two more season, with the second being much shorter?  Let us know in the comments below.
