ABC Cancels Some Geeky Properties

Two highly anticipated shows before they premiered have gotten the ax from ABC.  First up after only two seasons, the Captain America spin-off Agent Carter got cancelled by ABC.

The first season focused on the creation of S.H.I.E.L.D by Carter and Howard Stark as the main premise of it was Peggy had to prove that Stark hadn’t been selling weapons to the US’s enemies.  It was intriguing spy drama with a hint of Marvel comics.  The second season was, well I don’t know, because after the first episode I, like many others apparently, fell off.  I like the character Peggy Carter, but apparently not enough on her own to carry a season of shows, hopefully we haven’t seen the last of Hayley Atwell in the MCU, but probably our only hope will be flashback scenes for Cap or maybe something involving the Time Stone/Gem, we’ll have to wait and see.

Also getting cancelled was The Muppets which is no surprise to me.  I love the Muppets, and I mean love, but this “real world” style meets the “Office” didn’t work.  The show tried to be more “adult” and it just didn’t work.  The jokes missed their marks consistently, and Fozzy Bear dating a real human was just uncomfortable and felt like something pulled out of fan furry fiction or fetish porn.

The show was a mess and didn’t work.  When I heard Disney was bringing the Muppets to ABC I was hoping that it would be a revival of the original Muppets Show that was a variety show with a celebrity guest ala Saturday Night Live and He Haw.  Hopefully Disney hasn’t given up on the Muppets and brings them back in a format that suits them.
