Why I’m Excited For Star Wars: The Force Awakens

When a new Star Wars Trilogy was announced after Disney purchased Lucas Films from George Lucas I’ve been cautiously optimistic that this new trilogy will be good.

After all in the 70’s and 80’s we received brilliant science fiction movie series, and then in the late 90’s we were “treated” to the terrible prequels.  So the series is batting a .500.  The new trilogy (along with the Anthology films) are being handled through Disney and much like the Marvel movies they own they’ve put the right creative people behind the films.

So far everything that’s been shown from photos to the teaser, everything has won me over, but I’ve been burned before by pretty promotional work for a Star Wars movie.  But over the last month or so something has won me, something I never thought I’d see, and that is Harrison Ford actually being excited for this film.

I love Harrison Ford, he was the hero of my childhood.  He was Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and the Blade Runner, he was the 80’s.  However since the 90’s Ford became a bit of a old fuddy duddy.  He just always seemed cranky and the fact that he had once asked George Lucas to kill off Han because he didn’t want to be in the movies anymore.

However this time around Ford seems genuinely excited to be apart of the films this time around.  Shoot he even showed up to San Diego Comic Con this year, something I thought I’d never see.  So if this usually grumpy and secluded actor is excited enough to go to Comic Con just reinvigorates the child in me who loved Star Wars.

December 18 can’t get here soon enough.  In spite of the bad taste the prequels left in my mouth I have high hopes for this film and can’t wait to see Han, Chewie, Luke, Leia, and the new cast battle evil in a galaxy far far away.
