Saying I’m not a big Warcraft fan would be an understatement, where the game has interested me I never really got into it. The original being an RTS was not my cup of tea when it came out (though later in life I have enjoyed a good RTS every now and then) and when the MMO World of Warcraft came out I was entrenched in consoles and didn’t really have a PC that could play, so I missed the boat on that one as well.
I will say the mythology of Blizzard’s creation has peaked my interest and I’m glad that there will be a Duncan Jones (son of the late great David Bowie) helmed movie for me to catch up on it.
Being a video game movie I want this to not only succeed but also be good. A good video game movie, especially one as ambitious as this one could attract better talent to create these movies so we gamers will get to see some of our favorite characters on the big screen. Off the top of my head I could see a Halo or Metal Gear movie getting green lit if Warcraft does well. And if it’s good we could see some good talent attached to it.
So fellow nerd, if this movie is any good we all need to go see it, not because we’re super excited about Warcraft but this could lead to bigger things, much like Iron Man launched the MCU, this could launch an era of good video game movies.
