We here at the Clash aren’t even over losing David Bowie yet and then we wake up to the news that Alan Rickman has also passed way, and like Bowie it was to cancer at the age of 69.
Of course many in the nerd community will remember Rickman for his brilliant work as Severus Snape, but myself, when I think of Rickman I think of Hans Grubber from Die Hard, Alexander Dane in the vastly underrated Galaxy Quest, and last but not least Metatron, the surely alcohol spittingĀ Angel in Dogma.
Rickman was a brilliant dramatic actor who also had brilliant comedic timing, which is why his roles in Dogma and Galaxy Quest are so brilliant and steal the show.
Though he did some television work in his home country of England Rickman didn’t get his big break until he was 42 with the villainous role of Hans Grubber.
Though he started later in life than most actors Rickman made the most of his career and he will truly be missed by man, from Potter fans to Die Hard fans.
The death of Alan Rickman who inhabited the character of Snape over eight Potter films hits especially hard because we ve already had to say goodbye to Snape once.
There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor a wonderful man.
