It makes perfect sense that in a movie based on a show that was all about future peace, prosperity, and most of all racial harmony that one of the main crew members would be gay and it’s fitting that it would be the character Sulu (now played by John Cho) who was made famous by openly gay actor George Takei.
Now I’m sure there will be your typical outrage over this, because well, the internet, but all in all it makes a lot of sense. It honors the man who made the character famous as well as it probably won’t garner the same amount of backlash as say Kirk or Spock being gay. Also it works because, for the most part, we only ever see Kirk being the lady’s man and really no one else (though the modern movies have Spock and Uhura as an item), the rest of the crew was kind of A-sexual.
Also, have you ever wanted to meet myself or co-creator Nelson? You have? Really? You sure? Well now’s you’re chance, we’ll be at Gex-Con, the East Coast’s premier Gaming Convention on Saturday July 23rd and will be holding a panel about breaking into YouTube and the immediately hosting a live podcast. So come out, support the site and check out all Gex-Con has to off.
