In 2012 Ridley Scott brought us Prometheus the film that we all thought would be a prequel to Scott’s Alien, that Scott and 20th Century Fox swore up and down wasn’t a prequel that in the end turned out to be a prequel to Alien, catch all that? Good, because we’re moving on.
Since it’s release the film has garnered mixed reviews from both fans and critics, some loving it and some hating it, me I’m in the middle, I enjoy it (not nearly as much as Alien) as long as I don’t think too hard about it. Once I start thinking about it there are just so many plot holes that don’t make a lick of sense.
The film ended with a very open ended ending that basically said there would a sequel and that sequel not being Alien (not yet at least) but given it’s mixed reviews and the fact that is just barely made over it’s budget an actual sequel wasn’t guaranteed, and even though Scott was insistent on making one for a bit there it didn’t look like Fox was going to let him.
However a couple of weeks ago the sequel was announced and yesterday the title was announced to be Alien: Paradise Lost.
I’m looking forward to this sequel and my hope is the cinematography will more resemble the look of Alien or Aliens, probably my biggest pet peeve with Prometheus is that everything seemed so clean and more advanced than anything in Alien or Aliens yet takes place a century or so before those movies.
So here’s hoping that this sequel adds to the mythos of Alien and expands on Prometheus. Also for some cool theories check out the video below from Nerdist News.
