DDOS Attack on Pokemon Go

Saturday morning did you have trouble logging onto Pokemon Go?  Yep me too.  I figured it was maybe a service upgrade or work by Niantic.  After all when I tried logging on it was 9 am just after I dropped my car off to get it’s state inspection done, so I figure the main player base in the US was probably sleeping in so the creators might have thought that an early morning update or tweak would be fine.

Of couIMG_2498rse it continued, in fact when I checked back a couple of times it still wouldn’t load.  I don’t think I was able to get on until 1 pm.

Well apparently we couldn’t get on because of a DDos attack on Pokemon Go.  A group (who I won’t name because I won’t give them the credit) but took credit for all of us not being able to find and catch Pokemon Saturday morning.

It’s frustrating when these groups decide they want to attack servers of popular games or systems (the PS and XBL attacks last Christmas).  I’m not sure why they can’t let gamers just game.  Especially on game like Pokemon Go that encourages gamers to get out into the world and get some exercise.
