Yesterday the must have app Pokemon Go was launched to the delight of many, many, many, many, Poke-fans. Shoot my messenger app was flooded with friends asking me if I had downloaded it yet.
The answer was of course yes. The basis of the app is basically the Pokemon games you know and love. You meet a professor who needs your help finding and cataloging Pokemon, and he sends you out into the world. The first 3 Pokemon you come across are the three starters from Red and Blue on the OG Gameboy, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, after you capture them its off on your adventure.
Here’s the big twist though you don’t use the D-pad to traverse the world of Pokemon, because your world is the world of Pokemon now. The game uses the GPS in your phone to map the world and you get to landmarks, gyms, and find Pokemon by walking around your world. It’s a brilliant app really and encourages you to get out in the world and see the sunlight.
I’ve only logged a few hours with the app but so far I’ve enjoyed it. Not sure how long lasting it will be since its something that involves me going out and about to catch Pokemon, which is hard when you’re an adult with a 9-5 job who also runs a website and is one half of a YouTube channel, who is also a single dad, shit I did a lot, thank god for late night Overwatch playing.
Anyways, I’ll update my progress from time to time on Pokemon Go on the site and on the YouTube channel as I progress through the game.
Also, on July 23rd check out at Gex-Con, the East Coast’s premier Gaming Convention. We’ll be hosting a panel that evening (details to follow soon) on starting your own YouTube channel as well as recording a podcast live.
