This past weekend Blizzard gave everyone a chance to try out the Overwatch Beta. A quick background on this game is that it’s a Player vs Player arena battle game where you select a certain character who has traits like healer, speed, sniper, tanks, etc., in the model of Valve’s Team Fortress.
Like Battleborn (which was just released) you start every battle by selecting a character type. In this game you don’t pick up different weapons you use all of your character’s abilities in the battle. This can be tedious if you pick an unfamiliar character, however, unlike Battleborn you can switch your character when you die. Also, unlike Battleborn the matches are not 30 minutes long, so if you’re on a bad team, playing poorly or don’t like your character the game will end mercifully.
This game is a lot of fun and has a lot of quick action that even if you’re playing badly you’re still having fun. Few shooters can accomplish this feat. Usually when you’re not playing well in a multiplayer game you feel like rage quitting but this game just makes you want to play better and master your chosen character.
Honestly, from the marketing and game footage and previous betas I was pretty excited about this game in the first place and the beta has convinced me to purchase this game when it’s released at the end of the month.
