Sorry Assassin’s Creed fans but you will not be getting your yearly installment this year for the gaming juggernaut.
In an earnings release Ubi Soft confirmed the gaming world’s suspicion that there wouldn’t be a new game this year. However, there is the Michael Fastbender film based on the game coming out this year so you fans of the series have that.
So what does this all mean for the game series though? 2014’s Unity was supposed to be a major hit for the game maker since it would let up to four players traverse Victorian France together. Unfortunately the game was plagued with bugs, frame rate issues and faceless characters and just didn’t work. Ubi Soft worked tirelessly on patches and fixes but it was too little too late, few stuck with the game and after these bugs came to light, fewer bought it.
With that said though, they did release in 2015 the critically praised Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, but maybe because of what happened with Unity or possibly franchise fatigue it didn’t sell as well as Ubi Soft had hoped.
One has to wonder if Ubi Soft is shelving this series in order to rework it. Yearly releases can cause fatigue when there is little innovation to the series. One of the best action franchises out there is Rocksteady’s Arkham series. They don’t come out every year and when they do come out not only do they improve on everything, but they make more innovations that make the franchise new and fun. Ubi Soft should take note.
So what do you think dear reader? Are you disappointed by this? Do you hope for something new and fresh from Ubi Soft for this series? Are you excited for the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
