The HTC Vibe from HTC and Valve finally has a preorder date of February 29th (launching in April) and the price point coming in at a cool $799.99, which is a cool $200 more than the Oculus Rift.
However, there is a difference between the two which could account for the price difference. The Rift is more of a hybrid between VR and traditional gaming (at the moment). The Rift doesn’t come with a motion controller, yet, just an Xbox One controller and as of the moment it more like an immersive sit down system. On the other hand the more expensive Vibe will be full VR and will ship with it’s motion controllers as well as a sensor on the unit that will map out your entire room to give you the full walk around experience.
However, the entry point for these VR games is not just the price of the headsets, you need a PC powerful enough to run them and those PCs are going to run you roughly $1500 so if you want to be an early adopter it’s going to run you over two grand.
Another thing to take into account if you’re going to be an early adopter is the amount of games available at launch. The Vibe will have 12 games at launch where the Rift will reportedly have 70, so you’ll have more choices on day one with the Rift.
So what do you think dear reader? Are you going to be an early adopter? If so, which one will you choose and why? Let us know in the comments below.
