Back in 2013 Russia instituted a law banning LBGT propaganda, aka, anything promoting what Russia would consider promoting a homosexual lifestyle. So how does this relate to FIFA 17? Well recently in Premiere League the players wore rainbow colored laces to show support to the LBGT community and EA added that to the game.
Now Russia wants EA to remove that feature from the Russian release of the game, which EA has not responded to, though in previous head butting situations like with gay couples in the SIMS EA did not remove the feature and therefor Russian gave the game an adult rating. So odds are that EA will not remove the shoe laces from the game so in a sense Russia could go through with their threat of banning the game or at the very least make it an “Adult” title.
Honestly this is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve had to write about in the one year plus of this site, a game possibly getting banned for shoe laces. In the past game developers have been cheeky in hiding Easter Eggs within codes of the game and honestly I think it would be hilarious if EA added a code in the Russian release of the game where every once and a while a player celebrated a goal by making out with their teammate, especially if Russia gives this game an adult rating.
So what do you think about Russia’s anti-shoelace stance on FIFA 17? Let us know in the comments below.
