Call of Duty to Follow Dino Crisis?

NeoGaffer Shinobi (who is more right than wrong with rumors) has posted the next Call of Duty game will go where Dino Crisis and the Leprechaun and Jason movies have gone before…

That’s right, the new hot rumor is that the next Call of Duty game is going to be set in the far flung future and in space, with I guess aliens as the villains.

Usually space is where franchises go to die (i.e., Dino Crisis and horror movies), but I don’t think this is the case for CoD.  More or less I think they’re trying something new, after all they’re a yearly shooter and when you’re yearly like them you have to shake it up a bit.

However, the trip to space might not be the best idea for the franchise.  For the most part they have cornered the market for console “war” shooters, with Battlefield popping up every now and then, but they barely make a dent in CoD sales.  In the Sci Fi shoot realm though it’s a bit crowded with two notable heavy hitters, Halo and Destiny, not to mention Star Wars: Battlefront among others.

So the question is, how will CoD differentiate themselves from the Sci Fi shooters that have been around for a while now?

Well we don’t know, there really aren’t anymore details, but Activision will be bringing CoD to E3 (because they do every year) so like many of the rumors we’ve been hearing about lately we won’t have too long to find out the truth.

So what do you think dear reader?  If you’re a CoD fan what do you think of this possible new direction for the franchise?  Do you like it or do you think it should stick with it’s grounded in reality war time roots?  Let us know in the comments below.
