Yesterday in an interview X-Men producer Simon Kingberg let it slip that Fox’s X-Men Movie universe could be due for a reboot very soon. Given the less than stellar success of X-Men Apocalypse and the face that a lot of their stars are aging out of roles and retiring from them (Hugh Jackman, though I’ll believe that when I see it) and Bryan Singer reportedly not coming back, hitting the reset button might be the right time.
Also, curiously, since this summer there has been rumored talk about Fox and Marvel doing what Marvel and Sony did with Spiderman and sharing the characters on the big screen and we do have a little evidence to support this. First and foremost Marvel’s Inhumans were supposed to be the MCU’s version of the X-Men (let’s face it the Inhumans ain’t the X-Men) but the Inhumans disappeared from their master plan, in fact it was originally reported that Wanda and Quicksilver were supposed to be Inhumans but that story line never played out, and the Inhumans plot line was basically dropped from Agents of SHIELD.
So why drop them? Well maybe, like with Sony, talks behind the scenes with Fox began about crossing over. Then of course after that there were talks of the Legion show, which Fox and Marvel (because Fox doesn’t have TV rights) together to bring this show to the small scree and be connected with the X-Men movies. Also with Doctor Strange introducing the Multi-verse to the MCU we could easily explain why the X-Men were never mentioned in the Avenger movies and vice-versa. So another reboot of the X-Men franchise could be just what we need to finally get this cross-over going, and if they’re from different versions of earth in the multi-verse than their individual stories won’t affect the other and the MCU won’t seem even more over crowded.
So what do you think about the X-Men reboot and the possibility of it meaning an MCU cross-over? Let us know in the comments below.
