Last week reports circulated the Mad Max director George Miller (though I like to think of him as the director of Happy Feet and Babe) would helm the sequel to the mixed received Man of Steel. For me this was a step in the right direction for the DC Comics Cinematic Universe. I’m not a big fan of Zach Snyder and George Miller has directed a wide swath of films from the cheery Happy Feet and Babe to the down right sadistic Mad Max series. My hope was that Miller could find the right blend of hope from the Donner Superman movie and edge that the current DCU has and meld them quite nicely into a great Superman film.
Well apparently that dream might be dead if what Den of the Geek is reporting is true. Per their sources a Man of Steel 2 movie is on “permanent hold”.
Warner Bros. does have a crowded schedule with all of the DC Comic movies that they’ll be putting out in the next 10 years, including three Batman solo flicks since it now seems that the center of the DCU is no longer Clark Kent but Bruce Wayne (next thing you know Bats is going to take his girl as well).
We’ll have to see how this all shakes out but given that Man of Steel was received with mix reviews maybe WB/DC are waiting to see how the follow-up DCU films do before they move forward with Superman.
