In spite of terrible reviews (29% at Rotten Tomatoes) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made over $170 million in the US and $682 million world wide, which is staggering and probably a record for a movie with such poor reviews.

wonder woman

This had a lot of fans crowing at critics and saying how wrong they were about this movie and that they just didn’t get it.  Critics of course responded by saying that of course the movie was going to do well opening weekend because it has Batman fighting Superman for the first time on the big screen, and people should wait until the second and third week to see what the drop off is to really determine the films success.

Well the second week is upon us and where the movie still make a bunch of money ($137.5 million world wide and $52.4 million in the States) it saw a hefty drop from last week of 79.8% world wide and 69.7% in the US.  On average a successful film sees a 20-30% drop in it’s second week, and this is usually in the Summer with hefty competition, there was nothing really new competing with Batman v. Superman this week to really justify the drop in viewer ship, other than word of mouth is getting around and not as many people are willing to give the movie a chance or go back for a second helping.

In spite of all that it still remains #1 at the box office world wide a has amassed just over $820 million to date.

  1. I tried to convince Nelson it was worth seeing but he wouldn’t budge.
Also tried to convince him Lex was based on the old inventor/crazy scientist lex. He wasn’t buying it.

    • I am not surprised, if there is one thing I can say for certain about him, it’s that once he sets his mind on something it’s really hard to change it.
